Hearing Loss and Communication in Relationships
by Leanne Spasnik
on February 10, 2012

Strong communication is a key component of relationships between spouses, family members and friends. When a person’s ability to hear diminishes over time, connections with their loved ones can be affected.

It often takes people several years to recognize they have hearing loss. Over time, their relationships can be affected as they make adjustments to the way they communicate:

  • Asking people to repeat themselves
  • Talking on the phone less often
  • Requesting that a companion repeat the words missed during a meeting, movie, dinner party, etc.
  • Avoiding social situations because it seems like everyone is “mumbling”

Does hearing loss affect you or someone you care about? As Valentine’s Day approaches, say “I love you” by giving the gift of better communication. Book a complimentary hearing screening with a qualified hearing professional.
